Dick Fleming Bits and Spurs Value Guide

Dick Fleming

Born:1913 Died: Maker's Mark:

Dick was born in Colorado but moved to California and at 30 years old bought an existing saddlery with a partner, who he bought out after a year or so. His business sold bits made by Miller and Tietjen, and Henry Garcia’s business in Salinas. He then started a wholesale business selling imported spurs from Azomoc, Mexico and eventually produced a catalog. As the wholesale business grew he sold off the original saddlery and ran the wholesale business until he retired in 1978. Dick is known for inventing and patenting the Mona Lisa and San Joaquin mouthpieces as well. His imported pieces were always marked “FLEMING”, he sold more bits than spurs.
