Ernest Logan was born in Dixon, Illinois and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming as a teenager where he found work as a cowboy. He learned leather working and saddlemaking as well as bit and spur making. He is known to have taught others the trade of bit and spur making including Henry “Dutch” Thar. Around 1890 Ernest Logan opened his own store in Cheyenne and operated that business for around 40 years before retiring. Logan died in Cheyenne in 1944.
