Born:1840 Died:1929 Maker's Mark:
"J.C. PETMECKY", "AUSTIN TEX"

Petmecky was a German immigrant who settled around Austin Texas and became one of the most famous early makers of bits and spurs as well as what he is best known for which is as a gunsmith. Petmecky was an incredibly skilled metalworked and produced some extremely high quality spurs, many of them gal-legs that count among the most collectible spurs in the hobby. Petmecky is credited with inventing the “O.K.” style spur that he sold to Buermann, who eventually made them famous by mass producing them and providing them cheaply to cowboys across the west.
