L.D. Stone Bits and Spurs Value Guide

L.D. Stone

Born:1852 Died:1905 Maker's Mark:
Stamp of Left Hand or Glove Trademark or "L.D. STONE & Co. SAN FRANCISCO"

L.D. Stone was a large San Francisco saddlery company who sold bits and spurs of many famous makers in their catalogs. Pieces for L.D. Stone were made on contract and often were marked “L.D. STONE & Co” or sometimes used a mark of a flat hand extended. Makers such as Atanasio Larios, and Tom Hildreth are known to have produced bits and spurs for LD Stone but others such as Echavarria, Bernal, Herrera, and more are assumed to have been supplying the company. If a piece marked LD Stone can be attributed to one of these famous makers it can greatly increase the value so it’s important to have an expert help identify and examine the piece to get an accurate appraisal.
